Apple is continuing its industrial diversification strategy by doubling production of its AirPods in India. The Foxconn factory in Hyderabad, now at the heart of this expansion, illustrates the American giant’s desire to reduce its dependence on China while strengthening its presence in global markets.
Apple doubles AirPods production in India to strengthen its global strategy
Apple is strengthening its manufacturing presence in India by doubling production of its AirPods wireless earbuds at its Foxconn factory in Hyderabad. This strategic move is part of a broader effort to diversify its supply chain and reduce its dependence on China.
Until now, the factory produced approximately 100,000 units per month. Thanks to the reorganization of five production lines, monthly capacity will now increase to 200,000 units. This ramp-up is accompanied by massive hiring, with the workforce increasing from 2,000 to 5,000 employees. Some of the equipment needed for this expansion will come from Foxconn’s facilities in Vietnam.
The total investment planned for this project amounts to 48 billion Indian rupees, of which 30 billion have already been committed. This sum will not only increase production but also support the manufacturing of new AirPods models for the Indian, American, and European markets.
This initiative is part of Apple’s broader strategy to diversify its production sites. In addition to India, the company is expanding its operations in Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand. This geographical shift allows Apple to benefit from tax advantages, including tariff exemptions for products exported to the United States.
Meanwhile, Apple continues to invest in the United States. A four-year, $600 billion investment plan has been announced, including the manufacturing of key components such as the front glass for iPhones and Apple Watches. This strategy aims to strengthen the resilience of Apple’s global supply chain while meeting growing demand across multiple continents.
