Apple iOS 18.3.1 iPhone Update: Like the rest of the iOS 18 versions, this new update will work on all iPhones starting with the iPhone Xs. This means that all iPhones from the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, iPhone Xr (2018), and above, including both generations (2nd and 3rd) of the iPhone SE, can get this update.
Still waiting for iOS 18.4
This update is not what we’ve been waiting for, that’s the iOS 18.4 release, which is expected to bring major improvements to Siri. But now that iOS 18.3.1 is here, it could mean Apple could release the first developer beta of iOS 18.4 this week.
Which iPhones can run iOS 18.3.1?
Like the rest of iOS 18, this new update will work on all iPhones starting with the iPhone Xs. This means that all iPhones from the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, and iPhone Xr (2018), and above, including both generations (2nd and 3rd) of the iPhone SE, can get this update.
Unlike iOS 18.3, which was specifically for phones running Apple Intelligence, this update is for all iOS 18-enabled iPhones.
How to download?
Open your iPhone’s Settings app, then click on General and select Software Update. Then click on Download and Install, and wait for the software to download. This is a small update, on my iPhone 16 Pro Max it is around 676MB in size and it was installed in about 10 minutes (depending on your internet speed).
What’s in this update?
Apple hasn’t announced any new features in this update, so it’s mostly bug fixes and security improvements. Some users have complained about stuttering in onscreen keyboards or lag in other parts of the system, so these issues may have been resolved.
Apart from this, this update also includes a serious security fix. Apple has informed on its support pages that the iPhone (or iPad) can turn off USB Restricted Mode when locked. And Apple has also mentioned that this may have already been exploited. It has been fixed with “improved state management”.
