You must have heard many things about mobile phones. Many people claim that their use can cause brain cancer. Many reports have come in this matter so far. A report has now been released by WHO i.e. World Health Organization. In this review report, it has been told that mobile phones do not cause brain cancer.
WHO has reviewed reports from more than two decades ago and prepared its review on that basis. In the last few years, the use of smartphones has increased worldwide. However, despite the increasing use, no link has been found between smartphones and brain cancer.
brain cancer does not happen
People who use smartphones a lot have been included in this research. Some people have also been included who have been using the phone a lot for years.
Researchers have released this information after reviewing 63 research conducted from 1994 to 2022. 11 investigators from 10 countries participated in this research, including experts from the Radiation Protection Authority of the Australian Government.
This study is a relief for everyone, from children to those who spend a lot of time on smartphones. However, this does not mean that there are no ill effects of using a smartphone too much. This review focuses on the effects of radiofrequency radiation, which is used in mobile phones as well as TVs, baby monitors and other devices.
What does IARC say?
Professor Mark Elwood, who is a co-author of this research and is also a cancer expert, said, ‘No research has shown an increase in risk.’ The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified the waves emitted from mobile phones as ‘Possibly Carcinogenic’ i.e. category 2B.
This means that there is not enough evidence yet to prove its direct link to cancer, but it cannot be completely denied either. This data is of the investigation done in the year 2011. Looking at the old data, the advisory group of the agency has recommended to re-examine this category as soon as possible.
